Home Design normally isn’t at the top of our list for new year resolutions , but it should be. After all, home is where the heart is. Cheesy, I know but is there really any other place like home?
Our homes are so personal – a safe haven, inspiration, reflections of our deepest treasures, our quiet place. So this year, make sure your home is designed to support you in stepping into your highest self and slaying your goals.
I’ve gathered a few tips on the best New Year resolutions to upscale your home and life in 2019!
Tell A Story
Your home for you should be a space like no other. It should reflect your personality, desires, accomplishments and everything in between. For this , your home design should be inspired by you. Take inspiration from your favorite experiences, whether that’s your favorite movie, restaurant, hotel, or travels. The key is, making sure no matter what, those things feel just like you .
There’s nothing like self-expression. And your home is the perfect place to let your freak fly (haha), seriously!
Take A Risk
Telling your story will require you to take some design risk in your home. I’m sure your favorite places ever, don’t have boring greige walls everywhere. Of course not! They have paneling, texture, color, and most importantly a vibe.
Introduce some vibrant color or wallpaper to your home.I love to add a patterned wallpaper to a small room to really make an impression. If patterns and color seem a bit too intimidating, go for layering and texture. Add small pops of color to your accent decor or fine art, and opt for grasscloth or even croc textures on the wall!
Design For Success
Many of us are modern day superwoman. Sometimes that requires bringing work home. If that’s you, make sure you have a designated area for when you are working from home. Whether that’s a small area of a room or a designated home office. Your office creates a vibe for your creativity and strategizing superpowers so it should be designed in a way that represents the level of success you want to achieve.
However, success at home goes beyond where we work. Every space in your home should have it’s own designated function. For the new year redefine those functions for holistic advantages. For example, maybe consider removing electronics from your restoration and sanctuary areas like the bedroom. This can make bedtime with your partner a little more sensual, or help you really meditate and wind down after incredibly long days.

Create your happy place
Like all things worthwhile, creating a home you love is indeed a labor a love. Make sure you carve out a special place just for you. That can be a meditation altar, a new study, a closet makeover, champagne room, or even a super cozy reading corner. Whatever you choose, make sure it makes you so happy, you dream of getting back to it!
